A Christian wilderness camp differs little from any other type of wilderness camp except in one regard. A Christian wilderness camp includes the teaching of the Christian faith as part of the camp's therapy program. To many parents this is a good and desirable thing. The parents have a strong faith and want to share it with their troubled teen; so much so that there are often opportunities for parents to stay for a short time at a Christian wilderness camp. It's a team effort of family and staff working together to help the child.
These situations mean the kids are so busy doing different and exciting things they have little time to worry about their problems. In the therapy sessions they get to discuss their problems with trained professionals. The kids make new friends, get away from the source of their problems and help themselves to a new attitude and a better lifestyle. Their self-esteem and self-confidence takes off and they marry that with sound Christian principles.
The number of Christian wilderness camps is not as great as wilderness camps per se but the ones which do exist are highly attended and come with excellent recommendations from both parents of troubled teens and the teens as well. The religious teaching aspect needs to be explained in that it is not a dominant aspect of the camp's program but rather a significant aspect in which the teachings of Jesus play a role in the therapy and teaching program.
The costs of a Christian wilderness camp are in line with other types of wilderness camps and teens can look forward to the full range of outdoor activities found elsewhere.
One aspect of a Christian wilderness camp involves the members of staff. Each is a committed Christian and so all the programs and therapy sessions are based on the Christian faith. The teens are dealing with adults who are not only trained and experienced professionals but also people who believe in their Christian faith and practice it in their daily lives.
One major benefit for parents is that their teen not only gets to overcome their troubles but also receives instruction in the Christian faith. As the parents are often Christians this means a lot both to them, the teen and the staff at the wilderness camp.
Of course Christian wilderness camps are open to anyone and with their fine record, they make an excellent choice when helping a troubled teen.
